Embracing it all - The style

My approach is a mixture of documentary and portrait photography, which will lean either way depending on the type and flow of the session you choose.
A portrait session in nature will feature more portraits, natural and prompted when needed, with you as the centrepiece connecting with your surrondings. Whereas during a session at home, or with children around, we will go more with what naturally unfolds. It’s an opportunity to capture your home, rich with story that may be meaningful to you. Its up to you (or there’s the option of both!). At times I may help to direct/prompt you and at other times follow what unfolds.

The type of photographer I’m not is one who focuses on perfectly posed and polished photographs. - I love true expression and moments shining through, moments of realness.

These photos and this experience are for YOU. They are a chance to celebrate your beautiful changing body, your love and life in this chapter.

An important note - It’s easy to feel pressure that all has to be perfect now the moment has come. - In fact, the time will flow best if we remember to embrace our messy, imperfect human-ness along the way. These are moments that will mean the most when you look back. Messy-ness welcome! You-ness welcome!

A woman with long wavy hair in a sleeveless top and jeans is standing outdoors next to a child. The woman is looking upward at a balloon shaped like a unicorn, which is partially visible at the top of the image. The child, wearing a dress, is looking up at the balloon with her hands near her face, in a grassy area with trees in the background.

Your Photographer

My photos explore a love for documentary with its storytelling ability to freeze a raw moment in time, - and portraiture which allows us to be bravely front and centre- A dance with vulnerability and creativity.

I have a relaxed approach, often being told I have “gentle” energy (but can turn into a creatively excited child when we get in the flow!)
I care greatly about the quality of my work and give both the capturing and editing careful care to ensure we create the images that are satisfying and meaningful to you.
Every session and every woman, couple, family are different, so I will adapt how I shoot to each session. Whether you’re up for a more relaxed session, or down to get creative and vulnerable with storytelling, I’m looking forward to telling your story.

  • A black and white photo of a man and woman embracing with their foreheads touching, eyes closed, showing intimacy and affection.

We had a wonderful maternity shoot with Tamara that I couldn’t be happier with. It was new to me to be in front of a camera like that but Tamara made me and my partner feel so comfortable and relaxed. We could be ourselves and in that Tamara captured magical moments. We received so many amazing photos from our photoshoot, I love the variety and creative eye Tamara has! I look forward to another shoot with baby on the outside.

  • A young girl with curly hair wearing a checkered dress leans over and looks intently at a woman lying in bed, showing curiosity or concern.

Tamara has a way of capturing the essence of a story. Raw and real yet there’s something magical about her photos. She finds those beautiful in between moments and creates a comfortable space to let things unfold naturally. I feel honoured to have her photograph the milestones in my life. From love to pregnancy to family.

I’m normally awkward in front of the camera but Tamara has a way of making you feel relaxed and comfortable. Our family photoshoot was easy and fun, and the photos are beautiful.

  • A woman in a floral dress standing outdoors along a path, smiling, with trees on one side and a wooden wall on the other, black-and-white photo.

Tamara made us feel so relaxed and comfortable. We don’t particularly enjoy getting our picture taken but Tamara made it a breeze! I was blown away when we received our photographs, she did such a gorgeous job capturing a pivotal point in our lives. We will definitely be using her talents again the next chance we get!

FAQ’s

  • Around 33-35 weeks is a good time to photograph, as you are in full bloom, but still have energy and with less chance of missing out if baby comes early.

In saying that, I have also photographed earlier on in the pregnancy which can also be beautiful! It’s up to you.

  • Yes, if the weather is really rainy or windy and we're set to shoot outside, we can definitely postpone. Overcast grey days however are great for moody lighting thats easy to work with.

  • Before our session I'll send you some recommendations for what to wear - colours etc that will work best photographically and with my editing style. But I also so encourage you to embrace your individual self and style. It's totally cool if a flowly dress for example is not your thing. Be you above all! Be sure to let me know if you have any creative ideas involving clothing or costume - I'm all for it.

  • Somewhere special to you is always a good place to start. If travelling feels too much, how about a session centered around your home, where you have been growing your baby? Doing the cozy things you like to do, inside and out?

Is there a special place in nature you have spent time? This photo to the right is not just a forest - It's a location with lots of history, very dear to the couple in the picture.
I can help suggest some options if I'm in your area and you would like help choosing the best location good for photos.

Within nature locations we will pick a few of the best areas where the best light and nature meet and focus our creative attention there.
On our longer sessions, we can choose a mixture of photos in nature and at home.

  • Yes, I can set up a payment schedule tailored to you, and payed off over a month.

“I’m awkward in front of the camera”

The most common comment that I hear is that people are uncomfortable or nervous in front of the camera.

These sessions are for everyone, even if you think you're totally unphotogenic.

My focus is making you relaxed and at ease. Your main task on the day will be connection to self or your loved ones above all and I can help with suggestion on prompts, and creative ideas as it flows.
